Wildlife Chiefs' Wolverine Sub-committee

The Wildlife Chiefs’ Wolverine Sub-Committee was established by the WAFWA Directors in January 2015. As such, it is the most recent working unit to be organized within WAFWA to address an identified need. The first meeting of the sub-committee was held in July 2015 in Reno, Nevada.  Sub-Committee membership includes the Wildlife Chiefs from those western states where wolverines currently exist.

The working group’s approved Statement of Purpose follows:

“1. Develop a statistically defensible multi-state monitoring plan for states where wolverine populations exist (WY, MT, ID, WA);

2.  Seek funding to implement the monitoring plan;

3.  Coordinate development of individual state wolverine conservation plans for states with suitable wolverine habitat; and

4. Coordinate and prioritize research efforts.”

This is a time-limited sub-committee of the Wildlife Chiefs that can be dissolved once the major work is accomplished.

The current Chair of the Wildlife Chiefs’ Wolverine Sub-Committee is Jeff Gould, Idaho Department of Fish and Game. The current Director Sponsor of the Wildlife Chiefs’ Wolverine Sub-Committee is Virgil Moore, Director, Idaho Department of Fish and Game.
