Law Enforcement Committee

Statement of Purpose:

"It is recognized that law enforcement is an integral component of wildlife management. As such, the Western Association of Fish and Wildlife Agencies (WAFWA) Law Enforcement Committee is established to provide a forum for wildlife law enforcement professionals from member agencies to.

  • Encourage and promote law enforcement cooperation and consistency
  • Encourage and develop efficient and innovative law enforcement practices
  • Promote wildlife or resource law enforcement training and education programs for officers
  • Provide a forum for the collection and dissemination of information relating to changes in relevant law(s)
  • Review and provide comment to proposed and enacted relevant legislative changes
  • Encourage the highest possible ethics, standards and practices for wildlife or resource related law enforcement
  • Encourage the most courteous, impartial and efficient law enforcement services to the public; and
  • Properly staff assignments from, and convey recommendations and advice to, the WAFWA directors relating to wildlife and resource law enforcement issues".
Committee Chair Duties
  1. Solicit and determine items for committee meeting agenda (May).
  2. Provide Secretary with final agenda (June).
  3. Chair the committee meeting, direct discussion (July).
  4. Arrange to have someone take minutes of the committee meeting (July).
  5. Arrange to have host state/province office staff type up the minutes after the committee meeting and prior to the business meeting (1-2 days).
  6. Present an oral committee report at the annual business meeting (July).
  7. Turn in typed committee report to the Secretary at the annual business meeting for attachment to the minutes.
  8. Complete committee action items identified at the annual meeting (on going).
  9. Report at the mid-winter meeting, if requested by the directors (January).
  10. Serve as the Director Sponsor for the Western Native Trout Initiative (WNTI).
  11. Serve as a member and attend meetings of the WNTI Management Committee which operates under the auspices of the Inland and Marine Fisheries Committee.
