WAFWA's Summer Meeting is Going Virtual!

Check out the Know Before You Go Attendee Guide to get more information about our WAFWA Virtual Summer Meeting.

WAFWA’s mission is to “deliver conservation through information exchange and working partnerships. By working together, the fish and wildlife resources of the West and the habitat upon which those resources depend will be protected and enhanced so that future generations can enjoy our natural heritage.”  The annual summer conference is a key mechanism to fulfill this mission and without the conference, information exchange and working partnerships are inhibited rather than fostered.

Due to the ongoing COVID-19 crisis, the Western Association of Fisheries and Wildlife Associations (WAFWA) will hold its annual summer conference virtually. A virtual conference is the best way to engage, share and connect with the natural resource community during this challenging time. The annual summer conference is a key mechanism to advance WAFWA’s mission, and we hope that you will join us for an exciting and innovative virtual experience.

What will a Virtual Conference Look Like?

As we move the annual summer conference online, we look forward to offering the same informative and timely content from presenters and the space to connect with members, sponsors, and exhibitors from across the region.

The virtual conference will include our regular offerings and opportunities for engagement, including keynote speakers, panel sessions, workshops, committee and Board meetings, and networking opportunities.

In addition to participating in the live event, all attendees will have access to recordings that can be viewed at any time. Moving our in-person conference to a fully online format presents us with the unique opportunity to explore new tools for online collaboration and connection.

Why Attend a Virtual Conference?

Cost Savings: Participants will save money on reduced registration fees and no travel or hotel expenses. Volume discounts for agencies will also encourage more participation from professionals who have not been able to attend in the past.

Time Savings: Less travel time means more time to focus on the conference sessions and networking or attend to work and family responsibilities.

Sustainability: By eliminating the need for travel and reducing the energy required for an in-person event, our virtual conference will have a much smaller carbon footprint. It will also avoid the large amount of waste that would typically be generated at an in-person event (e.g. coffee cups, fliers, brochures).

Expanded Attendee Base: A virtual conference will allow participants to connect with a larger audience, many of whom may have not attended due to cost and travel constraints.

Flexibility: Participants will have access to the full schedule of meetings, either live or recorded, and can move easily between sessions.

Networking Opportunities: A virtual environment will provide new opportunities to engage fellow attendees in real-time chat, discussion forums and one on one video.
